Communication Collage

The analysis of the first data from the field led us to further investigate communication in a general sense in the life of the students.

We designed an activity called Communication Collage.

Aim
Estimulate open ended discussion about communication within the pupils, their parents, friends, teachers and another group of their own choice and investigate how they would express it visually using the material provided.

Method
  1. Give general instructions.
  2. Split the class in small groups of 4 to 6 students and one tutor.
  3. Provide: magazines, glue, scissors and A4 papers.
  4. Generate rich discussions to stimulate the work.
  5. In the end ask them individually to explain their choices (another opportunity for discussion).

Chance and Challenge (DesignWeek)

Together with the students from Ersängskolan our class organized a series of events at the school called the DesingWeek. Each group designed activities to gather information and the whole group was engaged in a big fun activity to keep the pupils engaged while we were doing the research.

Our activity was called Change and Challenge and was designed to collect, from the stundent's point of view, information about their evaluation system: grades, events, feelings...

The activity was based on "The Motivation Model".

Aim
Ask the student to directly and indirectly tell us about and express  their feelings about activities related to evaluation.

Method

  1. Provide special boards designed for the task.
  2. Split the class in small groups of 4 to 6 students.
  3. Ask them individually to perform the tasks explained by the tutors.

We worked with the classic circumplex model of emotions.

Check below both sides of the A3 that was part of the material used for the Chance and Challenge workshop.

These are real results from it. The analysis took us to some hypothesis and design opportunities. The drawing below is a real interpretation from a student about her term student + parents + teacher meeting.
This drawing expressed what most of them told us in different ways.
