4. Innovation Paths
This image above is a real drawing made by a student during one of the workshops conducted with them. This drawing represents what most of the students were telling us about their feelings for this meeting called Utvecklingssamtal (Development Chat).
This scene shows how important it is to change it as soon as possible. "Good" and "Bad" students react the same way.
Redesigning a Ritual
The IP chosen was to redesign the evaluation ritual and provided the necessary tools for it happen in order to make the student have more control and engagement in their own development process.
The Utvecklingssamtal was chosen because considering the whole scenario of the evaluation events, it's the most critical and important.
What could be the perfect moment to design the students future development with them on control of it has been transformed in a formal and boring session for all the involved.
This model was create to make it easier for the public to understand how motivation changes during the term for the students.
It was based in the field work and reflects at two basic points qualitatively how the students feel when setting goals and when they have to meet the parents and teacher at the Utvecklingssamtal.
One of the reason uncovered during our studies why the students motivation drops during the term is because they find it very difficult to keep track of the goals they set for themselves in the beginning of the term. Other causes are the lack of visualization of their progress and also how it happens.
The Environment to Support the Ritual
We decided to go a bit further and suggest an environment that provides some of the tools needed to make the ritual into something real.
A place to:
- keep track of goals and grades;
- share this information with parents, teachers and students in different visualization ways;
- access it easily (major difficulty nowadays);
- keep the student motivated and engaged by having all these above at any time.
